Chevrolet History:
Chevrolet was originally co-founded by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant and entered the automobile market November 3, 1911.This was after William C. Durant had been ousted from General Motors and realized he could use Louis Chevroletsdesigns to rebuild his own reputation as a force in the automobile industry. The company introduced their model “Classic Six” a year later. It was five-passenger touring sedan equipped with a 4.9 L, six-cylinder engine and could propel the car up to a speed of 104 km/h.Durant then created Chevrolet’s storied bowtie logo in 1914.In 1925, the company introduced another model, the 490.Durant then used the profits got from the sale of the 490 to purchase enough shares to regain control of General Motors. This allowed Chevrolet to become on of the largest divisions of General Motors. With more popularity through the 1920s,the company had more sales than ford with up to 1 million units sold. In 1934,the company introduced the independent front suspension. During the 1950s,the company introduced its charming Corvette and the popular air-cooled Corvair compact car during the 1960s.In the same period, the company introduced the compact Nova and the sporty Camaro. The Camaro became very popular contributing 10% of Chevroletstotal sales in 1967.Cheverolet then introduced smaller cars like the Vega and the Chevette during the 1970s and downsizing bigger models such as the Caprice and Malibu. It later introduced the Cavalier in the 1980s with production of mid and full size models still in production to date.
